Location: Sheffield (hybrid role)
Salary: £33,120 per annum plus benefits Closing Date: Tuesday 14th July 2026

We are looking for a Sustainability Specialist to provide expert technical support and leadership in greenhouse gas emissions, carbon accounting and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), supporting the delivery of our sustainability ambitions across Tata Steel UK.
Reporting to the Sustainability Policy & Assessment Manager, you will play a key role in delivering robust carbon and environmental data, analysis and reporting, supporting regulatory compliance and strategic decision-making. You will work closely with colleagues across the business and external stakeholders to ensure Tata Steel maintains its leadership position in sustainability within the steel industry.
What You Will Do

Develop and implement robust methodologies for:
- Greenhouse gas emissions calculation and reporting
- Supporting mandatory and voluntary requirements

Ensure accurate data collection, validation and audit trails to support external verification processes

Maintain and enhance tools and models used for:
- Carbon accounting
- Life Cycle Assessment

Provide expert technical advice on sustainability, life cycle thinking, and carbon emissions to:
- Business units
- Senior leadership
- Commercial and Sales & Marketing teams

Support the development of company sustainability strategy, identifying opportunities to maximise value through sustainability

Act as an expert user of the MoniCA system for:
- Energy and CO₂ data
- Supporting customer sustainability requests
- Third-party reporting platforms

Represent Tata Steel externally with professionalism and expertise including:
- Verification bodies
- Industry associations
- Customers and collaborative partners

Share knowledge through:
- Presentations
- Conferences
- Publications (internally and externally)

Provide:
- Technical guidance and mentoring to team members and students
- Support for team development activities (including objective setting and team engagement)

Ensure safe systems of work and support broader HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environment) activities where required
What You Will Need
Enviable Experience & Expertise
Strong expertise in:
- Sustainability principles
- Carbon accounting and greenhouse gas emissions
- Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
- Advanced Excel and strong analytical/numerical capability
- Data validation and environmental reporting
- Ability to interpret and apply technical and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Degree in a scientific or related discipline (minimum)
- Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience (preferred)
- Professional membership (desirable)
Key Attributes
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics clearly
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
