Job Summary

The SVP, Marketing & CMO will report directly to the Chief Customer and Revenue Officer and is responsible for driving growth for Equinix by developing and executing marketing strategies that align with the company's overall goals and objectives. This critical executive role leads the end-to-end go-to-market demand generation strategy encompassing:

  • Digital awareness and demand
  • Brand awareness and preference

to achieve commercial outcomes at scale. Additionally, this role leads:

  • Product and Solution Marketing
  • Field and Partner Marketing
  • Segment Marketing

This leader drives revenue growth through marketing-enabled sales, targeting account expansion and new segments.

Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy and Leadership

  • Set and drive marketing strategy: Define and execute a bold, integrated marketing strategy aligned to business priorities that accelerates growth and positions the organization for long-term competitive advantage.
  • Transformational leadership: Constantly assess and align relative performance of the function with external emerging best practices.
  • Enhance marketing performance: Set performance targets aligned with business outcomes, with explicit ROI accountability across all marketing investments.
  • Own and govern the martech stack: Maintain strategic oversight of the full marketing technology ecosystem, ensuring tools, platforms, and integrations are fit for purpose, efficiently utilized, and aligned with operational standards.
  • Allocate the full marketing budget: Address ROI rigorously, ensuring spend directly connects with pipeline and revenue outcomes.
  • Drive automation and analytics: Enhance processes using AI or streamlined systems to empower customers and enable competitive advantage.
  • Employee engagement & team culture: Motivate staff around a shared vision and change narrative aligned to the marketing transformation, fostering a collaborative culture.

Brand Transformation

  • Lead comprehensive brand repositioning: Shift from a colocation provider to a preeminent global digital infrastructure platform at the center of AI, hybrid multicloud, and interconnection.
  • Craft differentiated narratives for CIOs, CTOs, CDOs, and infrastructure decision-makers at the world’s largest enterprises.
  • Drive brand awareness and preference: Transition perception from "known for colocation" to "known for powering the AI economy"".
  • Build thought leadership: Shape industry conversations around digital infrastructure, AI readiness, and interconnection.
  • Own customer lifecycle marketing: Execute programs deepening engagement, retention, and expansion while fostering loyalty across the customer journey.

External Spokesperson & Industry Voice

  • Represent Equinix externally: Speak on keynote stages and industry events as a trusted authority on digital infrastructure and AI.
  • Manage analyst relations with Gartner, IDC, Forrester, ensuring favorable company positioning in evaluations.
  • Lead communications campaigns: Engage media and influencers, vastly influencing industry priorities.
  • Own competitive positioning: Articulate differentiation consistently across analyst briefings and sales enablement assets.
  • Manage crisis comms: Company stance and external issue responses (with investor relations scope-excluded).

Demand Generation and Pipeline

  • Design and execute demand gen programs: Integrate digital channels (web, SEO/SEM, email, social, ABM, display) and field marketing.
  • Contribute to pipeline targets: Measure pipeline creation, influence, and conversion across funnel stages (not just MQLs).
  • Build enterprise ABM programs: Craft personalized, multi-touch campaigns targeting strategic accounts and their complex sales cycles.
  • Align marketing and sales: Align investment and lead flow with sales capacity models and territory priorities for scalable impact.

Leadership Characteristics

Knowledge & Experience

Requires a proven track record in:

  • Leading digital/brand/product marketing organizations globally.
  • Marketing digital services and SaaS at scale.
  • Engaging diverse customer segments including:
    • Network & mobile providers.
    • Cloud and IT services companies.
    • Content providers & financial services.

Experience leveraging modern B2B tools, such as:

  • ABM and hyper-personalization.
  • Micro-experimentation for digital journey enhancement.

Essential experience in:

  • Pipeline acceleration and customer retention/expansion.

  • Sustainability marketing or aligned messaging techniques.

Compensation & Benefits

Target Pay Range (Annual)

  • United States: $328,000 - $492,000 USD
  • Excludes bonus, equity, or benefits.
