Swimming Teacher – Places Leisure
We are Places for People Group, a social enterprise that believes it’s people that make a community. That’s why we build homes and deliver services for everyone to thrive. At Places Leisure, we are changing lives by creating active places and healthy people for communities to thrive, and we want to be the UK’s leading health and wellbeing enabler.
We aren’t your typical company. We apply the same philosophy to our People as we do to our communities, ensuring our team is appreciated and supported. At Places for People, you’re more than just a number—you’re part of our cause.
About the Role
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Swimming Teacher, where you will work in a fun, lively environment with likeminded people. Your role will include helping to inspire others, delivering outstanding lessons, and encouraging students to achieve their best.
With your passion for teaching, swimming, and exceptional class programming, you will bring enthusiasm while engaging with customers and demonstrating extensive knowledge and expertise in swimming instruction.
All swimmer development stages at Places Leisure are based on the National Plan for Teaching Swimming. As a result, our Swimming Teachers must hold a minimum of a UKCC Level 2 qualification. While having a Lifesaving Qualification (NPLQ or NRASTC) is advantageous, if you are a motivated and driven individual, we will support you in achieving either qualification through our training and development initiatives.
This role is a great starting point for progression within Places Leisure, with opportunities to advance into roles such as Swimming Co-ordinator or Contract Swimming Development Manager.
As a Swimming Teacher, you will also benefit from:
- Ongoing training and development opportunities
- Support to achieve NPLQ or NRASTC qualifications
- Enhancement in customer service skills

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
