Swimming Teacher

Swimming Teacher – Birmingham Community Leisure Trust

Location: Cocks Moors Woods Leisure Centre, B14 6ER

Salary: Up to £15.53 per hour + excellent benefits

Working Hours: Shift options available:

  • Mondays – 4 pm to 6 pm
  • Wednesdays – 4 pm to 6 pm, 3 pm to 5:30 pm
  • Fridays – 4 pm to 6:30 pm
  • Saturdays – 8 am to 12 pm

About the Role

At Serco, working on behalf of Birmingham Community Leisure Trust, we’re recruiting dedicated Swimming Teachers to help deliver fun, progressive, and safe swim lessons to our community.

Birmingham Community Leisure Trust fosters active, healthy lifestyles, providing accessible sports and leisure facilities in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. Swim programmes are designed to develop swim confidence, skills for life, and even competitive talent. Your role will be to deliver structured Swim England learn to swim lessons, helping young and older swimmers grow in ability and enjoyment.

Key facets of teaching with us:

  • Support all-round –Funded safeguarding training, DBS checks, and teachers’ insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, fun, and progressive swimming lessons for participants of all ages and abilities, including babies and pre-schoolers, using the Swim England learn to swim framework.
  • Foster a customer-focused, welcoming environment appropriate for the full community.
  • Confidence-building – Help swimmers progress to entering competitive swimming (e.g., representing the UK) when they’re ready.
  • Provide ** pastoral guidance**, ensuring all participants are engaged, challenged, and growing at their own pace.
  • Support on-going training opportunities tailored to your career aspirations.

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential

✔ Customer service skills – Ability to connect and support people from all backgrounds and ages. ✔ Hold one of the following:

  • STA Award/Certificate in Teaching Swimming
  • Swim England (formerly ASA) Level 2 qualification

Advantageous (But Not Essential)

🔹 Certified lifeguard qualification:

  • RLSS UK NPLQ or RLSS UK NRASTC, or STA Safety Award for Teachers.

Important: This role requires a DBS check.
