Switchgear Field Service Engineer

This position reports to: Service Team Leader __ As a Switchgear Field Service Engineer, you will deliver expert on-site support for ABB customers by maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing LV/MV switchgear systems. You will ensure high-quality service execution, strengthen customer relationships, and contribute to operational improvements that enhance safety, reliability, and performance. Here, your work creates impact you can see and feel, every day. Your Role and Responsibilities In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact. Plan and execute field service work on switchgear and related equipment, ensuring delivery in line with customer orders and expectations. Troubleshoot equipment and process failures, recommend corrective and preventive actions, and ensure issues are resolved “first time right.” Collaborate with customers on-site to identify operational improvement opportunities and communicate them to the ABB account team. Prepare service documentation, reports, and material lists, ensuring all service activities meet ABB quality and safety standards. Coach and guide Associate Technicians and Associate Engineers; support training for colleagues and customers when needed. Qualifications for the Role Electrical engineering degree or equivalent relevant experience in power systems, electrical distribution, or related field 3+ years of experience in field service, switchgear maintenance, power distribution equipment, or industrial electrical systems Strong technical knowledge of LV/MV switchgear, diagnostics, testing tools, and field service practices Ability to work safely, apply risk assessment, and follow established safety and environmental procedures Mindset to innovate, take ownership, and drive continuous improvement Strong communication skills with ability to build customer trust and deliver excellent service Full UK driving license (or relevant local requirement) Benefits ABB offers a full range of benefits to help you thrive at work and beyond.
