Symphony Technical Manager

Manchester

Role Overview

We're looking for an experienced Technical Manager to lead our engineering team across a diverse property portfolio. You'll oversee the safe and effective delivery of planned and reactive maintenance, drive compliance and operational performance, and support the development of your team. Working collaboratively with clients and supply chain partners, you'll play a key role in improving asset performance, reducing risk and delivering an outstanding customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Service Delivery & Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day engineering service delivery across sites
  • Lead and manage site teams and specialist suppliers
  • Ensure consistent delivery of services in line with SLAs and KPIs
  • Act as the on-site technical authority for all engineering matters

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all works are delivered under Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
  • Provide oversight of permits, authorisations, and competent personnel
  • Maintain compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Uphold engineering standards and technical assurance

Performance Management

  • Monitor and report on engineering performance (daily, weekly, monthly)
  • Analyse KPIs, PPM compliance, asset performance, and fault trends
  • Review BMS/FDD alerts and manage reactive and planned activities
  • Drive root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions

Audit & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct regular technical and workforce audits
  • Support independent QA and Health & Safety audit processes
  • Ensure transparency with clients through reporting and insights
  • Identify opportunities to improve service quality and efficiency

Stock & Asset Management

  • Oversee stock control, audits, and usage reporting
  • Coordinate with site stakeholders on storage and logistics
  • Maintain optimal stock levels in collaboration with suppliers

  • Ensure accurate completion of statutory maintenance records
  • Monitor digital compliance systems and certification uploads
  • Review and address non-conformances with relevant stakeholders

Skills & Experience

Technical & Engineering Expertise

  • Strong background in building services engineering (electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or multi-disciplinary)
  • Good understanding of Building Management Systems
  • Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance practices
  • Ability to interpret technical data, asset performance, and compliance reports

Leadership & Management

  • Proven experience leading multi-site engineering teams
  • Strong people management and performance management skills
  • Ability to manage and challenge third-party suppliers and contractors
  • Effective coaching and mentoring capabilities

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • In-depth knowledge of Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
  • Strong understanding of statutory compliance and regulations
  • Experience with permits to work, risk assessments, and method statements
  • Health & Safety awareness (e.g., IOSH / NEBOSH desirable)

Analytical & Performance Management

  • Ability to track, interpret, and act on KPIs, SLAs, and performance data
  • Experience in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement
  • Strong attention to detail in auditing, reporting, and compliance tracking

Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working with clients, facilities teams, and store/site managers
  • Ability to provide clear reporting and maintain transparency with customers

Digital & Systems Proficiency

  • Experience using CAFM systems (e.g., Concerto or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with digital compliance tools (e.g., Mobiess or similar platforms)
  • Competence in data reporting tools and performance dashboards
