Synthetic Training Operator – Maritime / Defence Training
Location: HMS Collingwood, Hampshire
Position Type: Permanent
Core Hours: 07:30–16:30 (with early finish up to 3 days/week)
Ready to play a key role in shaping the next generation of Royal Navy warfare specialists? We’re looking for a Synthetic Training Operator (STO) to join the team supporting the Royal Navy’s cutting-edge Maritime Composite Training System (MCTS) — a state-of-the-art simulation and classroom training environment used to deliver world-class maritime warfare training.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an STO, you’ll sit at the heart of immersive maritime training, helping bring high-fidelity warfare scenarios to life.

You will:
- Operate advanced simulation systems across the Warfare Team Trainer (WTT), Classroom-Based Simulation Trainer (CBST), and Electronic Classroom Trainers (ECT).
- Deliver realistic cues, prompts, and scenario control to support instructors and enhance student learning.
- Work within the Common Synthetic Environment Control (CSEC) room and at operator desks in live training spaces.
- Support scenario setup, simulator configuration, data collection, and system performance observation.
- Provide essential support to MWS (Collingwood) and FOST (Devonport) instructors and trainees using MCTS systems.
- Ensure safety, security, and high training standards at all times.

What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for people with:
- A working knowledge of Royal Navy surface ship sensors and weapon systems.
- Experience with at least one RN Command system (ideally DNA2 and/or CMS).
- A good understanding of Operations Room Action Information Organisation (AIO).
- A proactive, flexible approach and the confidence to support instructors and trainees in a dynamic environment.
