SysOps Engineer
Role & Location
- Position: SysOps Engineer
- Location: Remote (UK)
- Employment Type: Full-Time
- Gross Annual Base Salary: GBP 42,000 – 54,000 (Additional variable compensation and benefits may apply, based on experience, skills, and objective criteria.)
About the Role
The SysOps Engineer ensures uptime, security, and performance of customer environments through provisioning, maintenance, monitoring, disaster recovery, and technical escalation. The ideal candidate balances individual ownership with seamless teamwork, excels in fast-paced environments, and drives operational excellence through automation, cost optimization, and continuous improvement.

- Customer success via reliable, high-performance infrastructure.
- Blending technical expertise with collaboration.
- Proactive problem-solving to exceed SLOs.
Primary Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Deliver customer environment implementation and software configuration within 24-hour lead time.
- Align with department SLAs, cost efficiency, and automation targets.
- Execute environment updates, migrations, and software upgrades.
- Monitor systems using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and alerting systems to preemptively resolve availability issues.
- Maintain service reliability against SLOs through metric monitoring, alert response, and availability goals contribution.
- Identify automation opportunities and process improvements.
- Participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot production incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and propose preventive measures.
- Leverage address ambiguity, document post-incident findings, and communicate updates to stakeholders.
- Optimise Azure costs to support departmental FinOps and unit economics.
- Provide exceptional customer support with high satisfaction levels.

Supporting Duties
- Contribute to service design discussions for operational enablement prior to deployment.
- Update technical documentation, workflows, and knowledge base articles.
- Analyse trends to improve operational and security posture.
- Ensure compliance certification via necessary technical changes.
- Support internal infrastructure projects for seamless execution and integration.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 3–5 years in cloud operations and infrastructure engineering.
- Certification: AZ-104 Azure Administrator, OR proven Azure administration competency.
- Technical proficiency in:
- Cloud platforms: Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Windows Server 2022, IIS, Microsoft SQL Server.
- Automation/Scripting: PowerShell, Azure PowerShell Modules, REST APIs, Terraform/ARM Templates.
- Orchestration: Terraform, ArgoCD, Ansible, Kubernetes, Azure Pipelines.
- IAM Tools: Azure Entra ID, Okta, OpenID Connect, SAML.
- AI-Assisted Development: Experience with tools like Claude, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot (evaluate/validate generated outputs).
- High-Availability Architecture: Traffic management, load balancing, fault tolerance, and scalability.
Preferred Skills
- Cloud Focus: Foundational knowledge in Microsoft Azure (preferred).
- IT Systems Lifecycle: Analysis, implementation, and evaluation of IT specifications.
- Technical Breadth: Proficiency in networking, operating systems, and security.
- Compliance: Working knowledge of frameworks, policy development, and implementation.
