Backend Systems Developer

Build the integrations that keep a high-growth digital business moving.

Salary: £45,000 - 60,000

Location: Hybrid

About the Opportunity

We're partnering with an ambitious technology-driven organisation that's investing heavily in its engineering capability. They're looking for an experienced Backend Systems Developer to help build and enhance the integrations that sit at the heart of a large-scale digital platform.

This is an opportunity to work on business-critical systems where reliability, scalability and performance genuinely matter. You'll be developing the services that connect customer-facing applications with warehouse, finance and operational platforms, ensuring millions of data points move accurately and efficiently every day.

If you enjoy solving complex integration challenges, building resilient backend services and working in a collaborative engineering environment, this could be an excellent next step.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing and developing backend integrations between digital platforms and core business systems including warehouse, ERP and finance solutions.
  • Building scalable middleware to support order processing, inventory synchronisation and real-time data exchange.
  • Developing modern cloud-native services using clean, maintainable architecture.
  • Creating and maintaining REST APIs and event-driven integrations across multiple business systems.
  • Implementing queue-based processing for high-volume asynchronous workflows.
  • Improving resilience through retry logic, circuit breakers and fault-tolerant design.
  • Monitoring system performance and proactively identifying opportunities to improve reliability and scalability.
  • Collaborating with engineers, product teams and operational stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Contributing to engineering best practice through code reviews, mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
