Controls System Development Engineer – In-House Controls (IHC) Team
Location Options: Berlin (BER21), Londres (LHR35), Madrid (MAD15), and Paris (CDG10)
We are seeking Controls System Development Engineers to join our In-House Controls (IHC) team within World-Wide Central Engineering. This global role requires a dynamic individual eager to travel and lead the development and deployment of cutting-edge automation solutions across our international network.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement software solutions for automation systems
- Lead global deployments of software projects
- Manage high-impact software releases to ensure minimal operational disruption
- Train and mentor engineering team members
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Contribute to engineering reviews to impact systems and architecture solutions
- Analyze system performance and provide optimization recommendations

Our In-House Controls (IHC) team in World-Wide Central Engineering specializes in the development, deployment, and scaling of automated solutions globally. We deliver pioneering solutions that integrate seamlessly into existing and new facilities worldwide.

The team will develop and deploy the software for all future WW AMZL automation, covering the full lifecycle from software design through commissioning, deployment, and operational on-call support.
Key Benefits of the Team’s Approach:
- Standardized, integrator-agnostic control systems for all AMZL automation, reducing the need for bespoke, maintainable solutions for each automation component.
- Ownership of development, deployment, fault analysis, and future upgrades, eliminating vendor dependency.
- Data and metrics-driven improvements, removing reliance on vendors while ensuring comprehensive data collection.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- Professional experience (non-internship) in software development
- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals, including networking, storage, and operating systems
- Experience designing or architecting new and existing systems, covering:
- Design patterns
- Reliability
- Scaling
- Proficiency in at least one modern object-oriented programming language, such as C++, Java, or Objective-C
- Experience with:
- PLC (Programmable Logic Controller)-controlled automation systems
- Diagnosing issues in continuous processing or production environments
- Electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment
- Strong oral and written English communication skills to collaborate seamlessly with cross-level stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java
- Familiarity with Agile methodology, particularly Scrum
- Experience partnering with engineering and technical teams to develop automated solutions
- Proficiency with CODESYS development environment
- Full lifespan experience in software development lifecycle, including:
- Coding standards
- Code reviews
- Unit and integration testing
- CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery) pipelines
- Experience with PowerShell, Python, Ruby, or Golang
