Associate Director – Systems Engineer / Systems Architect
Location: Hybrid (UK)
About the Role
We are seeking experienced Associate Director-level Systems Engineers / Systems Architects to support the design and delivery of complex enterprise systems across multiple technology domains.
This role is ideal for experienced architects and senior systems engineers who can bridge software and hardware disciplines, define technology strategy, and deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions that support critical business objectives.
Working closely with engineering, product, infrastructure, and business stakeholders, you will shape end-to-end system architecture while providing technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and definition of scalable, resilient, and secure system architectures aligned with business and technical objectives.
- Develop end-to-end architectural solutions, defining system components, interfaces, integrations, and technology standards.
- Translate complex functional and non-functional requirements into robust architectural designs.
- Act as the technical authority across multiple engineering disciplines, providing architectural governance and technical leadership.
- Drive system integration strategies, ensuring seamless communication and interoperability across platforms and technologies.
- Ensure architectural solutions meet performance, scalability, reliability, security, and compliance requirements.
- Identify architectural risks, technical dependencies, and develop mitigation strategies throughout project delivery.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices, recommending innovative solutions where appropriate.
- Produce and maintain architecture documentation, including solution designs, technical specifications, and architectural decision records.
- Monitor system performance and recommend architectural improvements to optimise reliability, efficiency, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Software Engineering, Infrastructure, Product Management, Security, and Quality, to deliver enterprise-scale solutions.
- Support architectural governance and manage the evolution of system architecture throughout the software development lifecycle.

Required Experience
- Extensive experience as a Systems Engineer, Systems Architect, Solution Architect, Enterprise Architect, or similar role within complex technology environments.
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering large-scale distributed or enterprise systems.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, software architecture, and systems integration.
- Experience translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Proven ability to work across multiple technology domains, including software, hardware, infrastructure, and cloud environments.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on delivering scalable, maintainable solutions.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within regulated industries.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF).
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles and compliance requirements.
- Experience with DevSecOps, systems integration, or modern software engineering practices.
