I am currently looking for a Systems Engineer for a contract role in Cheltenham.

Please note: Suitable candidates must have current, transferable eDV Clearance. This role will also require 3-4 days onsite in Cheltenham.

Job Details

Job title: Systems Engineer

Pay: £840 per day Inside IR35

Location: Cheltenham

Start Date: ASAP

End date: 12 months +

Hours per week: 37.5

Qualification required for this role: SFIA 4-5

Clearance: Suitable candidates must hold current, transferrable eDV Clearance.

As a Systems Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering complex, high-impact solutions across multidisciplinary teams, supporting projects that matter — from nationally significant programmes to cutting-edge digital and systems-led transformations.   • Design and engineer system solutions that meet functional, non-functional, and operational requirements
  • Produce and maintain system designs, technical documentation, and interface definitions
  • Support system build, configuration, integration, testing, and deployment activities

Integration & Assurance

  • Integrate components across infrastructure, applications, networks, and services
  • Ensure systems meet security, resilience, and compliance standards
  • Identify and manage technical risks, issues, and dependencies

Operations & Support

  • Support systems through transition to service and live operation
  • Diagnose and resolve system issues and performance problems
  • Provide technical input to change, incident, and problem management

Stakeholder & Team Working

  • Translate business needs into clear technical requirements
  • Work collaboratively with architects, developers, delivery managers, and suppliers
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience working as a Systems Engineer or in a similar technical role
  • Strong understanding of system lifecycle delivery (requirements through to operations)
  • Experience of system integration in complex or multi-technology environments
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience in cloud, hybrid, or distributed systems
  • Exposure to secure, regulated, or mission-critical environments
  • Familiarity with systems engineering, enterprise architecture, or service management frameworks
  • Experience working in Agile, DevOps, or iterative delivery models

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
  • Relevant technical or professional certifications (desirable)

Working Style

  • Analytical, structured, and detail-oriented
  • Collaborative, delivery-focused, and proactive
  • Comfortable balancing engineering quality with delivery pace
