System Engineer

Systems Engineer - Defence & Space Division

Belcan is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer in Portsmouth, with exciting opportunities to work on cutting-edge satellite communication solutions.

Contract Details

  • Duration: 6 months | IR35: Inside
  • Pay Rate: Up to £60/ph
  • Working Arrangement: Hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 day remote)

About the Role

Our client is looking for a talented Systems Engineer to join their Defence & Space division, working on ground-breaking projects across land, sea, and air domains. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact throughout the full system lifecycle, from conceptual development to operational deployment and in-service support.

Key Responsibilities

As a Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Identify key stakeholders and capture, validate, and clarify requirements
  • Define solution boundaries and system architecture designs
  • Conduct modelling and performance analysis, supporting static and dynamic modeling
  • Lead trade-off decisions to select optimal technical solutions
  • Manage interface requirement specifications
  • Support verification and validation activities, ensuring alignment with requirements
  • Assist with system integration and evaluation throughout the product life-cycle

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree-qualified in an engineering discipline (as recognised by IET)
  • Strong experience across systems engineering lifecycle activities, including:
    • Requirements management and capture
    • System architecture and modelling
    • Verification and validation processes
  • Ability to apply structured systems engineering methodologies
  • Experience analysing stakeholder needs and translating them into technical solutions
  • Solid understanding of system design, integration, and lifecycle management
  • Ability to obtain or hold a SC clearance (Security Cleared)

  • Knowledge of military standards
  • Hands-on experience with military satellite communications systems
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (or actively working towards it)
