System Engineer - Land CEMA (All Levels)

System Engineers – Land Cyber Electromagnetic Activities (CEMA)

Shaping the future of defence in the electromagnetic battlespace


Impact you’ll make

This is an exciting opportunity at Leonardo to work at the forefront of defence technology. You will contribute to advanced solutions in contesting electromagnetic environments, supporting UK and global customer requirements while helping to define, develop, and deliver next-generation defence capabilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Applying systems engineering expertise across the full lifecycle, including requirements definition, solution development, and in-service support.
  • Collaborating with customers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to deliver robust electronic warfare, Counter-UAS, and RC-IED solutions.
  • Integrating systems in line with military operationalability, While protecting friendly forces.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for System Engineers (any level) with:

  • Proven experience in systems engineering—or advanced academic research with a science-based Honours degree (or equivalent).
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a proactive “owner mentality.”
  • Experience in one or more of the desirable areas:
    • Systems engineering lifecycle: architecture, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), integration, verification & validation
    • Collaboration with safety, security, and reliability specialists
    • Domain expertise in: electronic warfare, Counter-UAS/Counter IED, ** Software-Defined Radios (SDR)**
    • RF systems, software-defined radios
    • System of systems integration (prime integration required for some roles)
    • Defence or security programme experience
    • Cyber and electromagnetic activities (preferably with knowledge of open standards like STICS/Open CPI)

Security Processes

The role requires adherence to:

  • UK Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) (mandatory)
  • Additional National Security Vetting (NSV) at security clearance level Security Check (SC) or higher
