Systems Engineer - Transport (Telent)

This permanent position involves working in small, highly collaborative teams supporting both project and maintenance teams across London Underground and Network Rail, ensuring essential infrastructure services—always safety-first, customer-centric, and in a friendly, fun, and respectful environment with a focus on thriving collectively.
Location: Office near Canning Town (London, E16) Ideal attendance: At least 1 day per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll work closely with the network and security team to:
- Build, maintain, and evolve network and security systems for Telent and its rail customers.
- Produce comprehensive system design documentation.
- Develop Cyber Security documentation and processes to align with customer standards.
- Support the creation and alignment of customer cyber security documentation.
- Collaborate with the project team to design, test, and deliver network upgrades for clients.
- Provide technical and continual improvement to rail’s cyber security approaches.
- Design and implement network and security enhancements for customer environments.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison with clients as needed.
- Support the design and integration of the SIEM platform (Microsoft Sentinel).
- Ensure customer networks and systems remain secure and operational.
- Partner with other teams to enhance systems security and monitoring.

Who You Are
You’ll have relevant experience in:
- Producing or maintaining Cyber Security processes and procedures.
- Configuring and maintaining firewalls (Cisco, Juniper).
- Designing, building, testing, and maintaining network equipment (Switches, Routers, firewalls).
- Developing and maintaining Windows Server architectures.
- A background in working within a London Underground environment (desirable but not essential).
- Familiarity with network support tools:
- Network management systems.
- Policy enforcement solutions.
- Microsoft Sentinel SIEM.
- Proven experience in networks or security infrastructure, demonstrating:
- ITIL Foundation certification.
- Communication skills, both written (drafting documentation) and verbal (customer/stakeholder discussions).
- Emotional intelligence to navigate complex environments effectively and professionally.
Key Requirements
Although eligibility pathways vary (see details below), you'll typically have:
- A Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification in engineering/Computer science-related disciplines, or
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in a similar field.
- Cisco certification:
- Preferable: CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional).
- Alternative: CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), with aspirations to earn the CCNP.
- Security industry credentials (to be considered additionalbury):
- Preferred: CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or CompTIA CYSA+ (Cybersecurity Analyst).
- Demonstrated success in a networks or security infrastructure environment.
