Systems Engineering Manager
Specialist in Advanced Manufacturing and Critical Maritime Systems
As a Systems Engineering Manager at CMS2, you will lead a team through the technical development and management of complex engineering systems across their full lifecycle—requirements, analysis, integration, verification, validation, and compliance. You will serve as a senior technical authority in multidisciplinary projects, ensuring stakeholder requirements are translated into structured, deliverable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as a key focal point for technical communication, ensuring clarity, consistency, and engineering excellence.
- Act as a senior technical authority in multidisciplinary teams, guiding systems engineering activities and informed decision-making.
- Lead engagement with stakeholders to analyse customer specifications and translate them into structured requirements.
Requirements & Architectural Management
- Develop and manage structured system requirements and architectures, ensuring traceability and completeness from design to retirement.
- Define and oversee verification and validation strategies, including test plans, specifications, and execution activities.
Product Development & Documentation
- Produce high-quality technical documentation, including system descriptions, models, and engineering artefacts to support product development.
- Lead and support design reviews at critical lifecycle stages to ensure compliance with requirements and industry standards.

System Integration & Assurance
- Lead systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle—concept development, detailed design, integration, verification, validation, and in-service support.
- Conduct and guide mathematical modelling, system analysis, and concept design using tools, models, and diagrams.
- Perform and lead root cause analysis, failure mode assessments, and reliability assessments to improve system performance.
Risk Management & Quality Assurance
- Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies in collaboration with project teams and stakeholders.
- Ensure alignment between engineering outputs, customer requirements, and project deliverables.
- Lead safety, risk, and compliance assessments, including design reviews and technical assurance activities.
Knowledge Transfer & Process Improvement
- Mentor system engineers, fostering technical capability and collaboration.
- Promote best practice systems engineering and encourage a culture of continuous improvement.
- Support business development through compliance matrices, technical responses, and bid strategies.
Operational & Project Support
- Work closely with project management to refine work packages, estimate effort, and align delivery timelines.
- Support seek-and-kill hypothesis testing and continuous innovation in system performance, reliability, and maintenance.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Essential
- Degree, HND, or significant professional experience in an engineering discipline.
- Professional engineering recognition (e.g., Chartered Engineer status or equivalent expertise).
- Strong systems engineering expertise, including:
- Requirements management
- System integration
- Verification and validation
- 5+ years of experience in a systems engineering role, with complex systems design and integration.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, analytical problem-solving, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft tools, especially Excel-based data manipulation and analysis.
- Ability to develop trust and collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable
- Masters Degree in an engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineering Status.
- Experience in military/defence or autonomous systems requirements.
- Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) familiarity.
- Masters of requirements management software.
- Knowledge of ISO9001 or similar QA systems.
- Experience in a lean manufacturing or Agile engineering environment.
Other Requirements
- Right to live and work in the UK.
- Existing relevant UK security clearance (SC or above) or the ability to obtain it.
- Normally requires 5+ years continuous UK residency for SC.
- At minimum 3 years residency for a basic security clearance check.
