Role: System Safety Design Engineer

Join us to shape the HS2 Track infrastructure project during its critical initial design phase, working alongside the Rail Systems Alliance to ensure synchronised design, risk management, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Designers, Clients, and cross-functional teams to ensure system safety compliance.
  • Support hazard identification, risk analysis, and mitigation, under the guidance of the Lead Systems Safety Engineer.
  • Contribute to safety case development, integrating evidence-based arguments to demonstrate compliance with safety requirements.
  • Execute safety analyses (FTA, FMEA, PHA) to evaluate system performance.
  • Partner with systems, hardware, and software teams to embed safety into designs.
  • Maintain compliance with safety standards and regulations and participate in audits.
  • Assist in incident investigations, proposing corrective actions.
  • Report directly to the Lead Systems Safety Engineer.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical rigor: Strong grasp of engineering principles, safety standards (e.g., rail industry regulations), and hazard analysis.
  • Analytical mindset: Ability to assess risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Communication: Clarify complex safety concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Teamwork: Facilitate collaboration across cross-functional teams and manage expectations.
  • Experience: Prior role in safety engineering, preferably within rail or infrastructure industries.
  • Education: Degree in engineering or safety-related field (advanced certifications advantageous).
