Responsibilities

  • Deliver system and functional safety across concurrent projects
    • Develop, maintain Safety Management Plans, safety cases, Assurance Reports, and supporting evidence
  • Lead hazard identification/analysis (HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA) and risk management
    • Manage hazard logs, justify ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) principles, and approve residual risk acceptance
  • Own safety requirements and ensure full traceability through:
    • Design
    • Verification
    • Evidence collection
  • Lead and support safety assurance in complex engineering projects
  • Develop compliant processes aligned with industry best practices (e.g., DEF STANs, EN standards)
  • Embed safety into designs by collaborating with:
    • Systems engineers
    • Software engineers
    • Hardware engineers
    • Security specialists
    • císion, Integration & Testing teams
  • Engage with stakeholders (internal/external, customers, regulators)
  • Liaise across cross-functional teams to deliver integrated system solutions

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree: In Systems Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or related fields
  • Experience (Safety-Critical):
    • Minimum 3 years as a Safety Assurance Engineer in defence or safety-critical sectors
    • Hands-on with full engineering lifecycle (design to validation)
    • Autonomous project management and handling multiple concurrent contractuals
    • Strong grasp of functional safety rules (IEC 61508, DEF STANs, MIL/DoD-Stds)
  • Technical Background & Expertise:
    • Engineering discipline (systems preferred; mechanical/electrical a plus)
    • Problem-solving and influence on design decisions
    • Safety case drafting and evidence-based assurance
    • Familiarity with UK regulatory standards and compliance frameworks
    • Experience with:
      • Safety Management Plans
      • Hazard Assessment/Risk Logs
      • Evidence requirements validation

Desirable

  • Knowledge of marine platforms (e.g., MCA Workboat Code 3)
  • Hands-on experience with third-party test facilities for assurance evidence
  • Professional accreditation (IEng/CEng) or in progress
  • Practical familiarity with Jira and Confluence
