Background
Prismatic is a technology development company, specialising in the design, manufacture and delivery of innovative, high value aerospace products and systems. Prismatic is a subsidiary of BAE Systems, led by a technically and commercially focused team. Our cutting-edge systems (such as the high-altitude PHASA-35) have clear commercial value, are developed at pace and address critical customer needs.
As a Systems Safety Engineer (Associate) within the SEIT team, you will work under the guidance of the Systems and Operational Safety Lead Engineer to support the delivery of coherent safety cases for both UAV system design and operation. This is a developmental role where you will learn to provide safety oversight during the evolution of system architectures and the introduction of new capabilities, assisting with build, integration, and testing phases in the UK and other deployed locations. You will be trained in deriving, tracing, and ensuring the compliance of system safety and security requirements.
We are seeking a methodical, detail-oriented graduate who is eager to collaborate across cross-functional disciplines to ensure our systems remain safe, secure, and aligned with customer objectives. This role also offers the opportunity to collaborate across the wider enterprise to support security cases for various other programmes.
This role is an entry level role so academic experience is as relevant as hands-on experience.
Tasks and Accountabilities
- Work with Systems Engineering team in balancing, adapting, and delivering the technical scope of the projects ensuring the systems safety.
- Work with the team to assist in the design of UAV systems working under supervision of technical management with an emphasis on product safety, security, and environmental aspects.
- Conduct aircraft and sub-system level safety analyses to support development of the Operational Safety Case.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to manage safety throughout design and service lifecycle.
- Conduct safety analyses to identify hazards, investigate and define mitigations.
- Conduct security risk assessments in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Support the provision of evidence and compliance documentation required for airworthiness.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
