Overview
London Borough of Harrow is seeking an innovative and technically skilled Systems Accountant to play a leading role in the development, management, and continuous improvement of the Council’s financial systems. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of financial data, while helping to enhance the systems, processes, and tools that support effective financial management across the organisation.
This is a key role within the Finance Division, combining technical systems expertise with professional financial knowledge. You will act as the bridge between Finance, IT, and operational services, ensuring that financial systems are configured, maintained, and developed to meet both statutory requirements and evolving business needs. The role offers a unique opportunity to influence how technology supports financial decision-making, reporting, and governance throughout the Council. You will lead on financial system improvements, reporting development, system upgrades, integrations, and data management activities, while identifying opportunities to introduce automation, streamline processes, and improve the user experience. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you will help ensure that financial systems support accurate reporting, strong financial control, and high-quality decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
