Job Description
Role: Systems Architect (Aerospace Landing Gear Systems)
Location: Bristol Flexible Working: On Site (3 days per week) Security Clearance: Clearable Experience Level: Senior/Principal (5–15 years) Sector: Aerospace Engineering
You will lead the development of complex aircraft landing gear systems, ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and certification requirements. This role involves end-to-end systems engineering ownership, including requirements management, validation, verification, and supplier coordination in a highly regulated aerospace environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development of systems engineering plans aligned with aerospace standards (e.g. ARP4754)
- Manage requirements capture, analysis, and flow-down across system, subsystem, and equipment levels
- Oversee requirements validation and verification activities, including documentation of evidence
- Set up and maintain requirements management tools (e.g. IBM DOORS / DOORS NG)
- Produce systems engineering documentation (requirements, validation/verification matrices, technical reports)
- Define specifications for landing gear equipment (hydraulic actuators, hoses, electrical harnesses)
- Act as technical interface with suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Provide leadership and guidance to junior and senior engineers

Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Strong experience in systems engineering within aerospace environments
- Knowledge of aircraft systems (ideally landing gear – ATA32)
- Experience with requirements management, validation, and verification processes
- Familiarity with tools such as IBM DOORS (Classic or NG)
- Understanding of airworthiness and certification requirements
- Ability to review and produce technical documentation and engineering reports
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience
- Extensive experience in systems engineering (including mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical systems)
- Familiarity with ARP4754 and ARP4761 standards
Desirable:
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Previous engineering signatory or approval experience
- Leadership experience in managing engineering teams and suppliers
