Systems Cyber Security Engineer

Location: Heybridge, Employment Type: Full Time

The Systems Cyber Security Engineer sits within the Software Systems Capability function, delivering critical assurance that cyber security risks are managed throughout the entire product lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and review Systems Requirements, including cyber security requirements (technical and procedural), across marine automation systems
  • Maintain expertise and ensure compliance with statutory and industry-specific technical standards relevant to Marine Automation
  • Collaborate with the RR Cyber Security Team (Friedrichshafen) to align on best practices and product security requirements
  • Conduct and document technical risk assessments
  • Specify and produce requirements for security measures, including encryption and development lifecycle frameworks
  • Compile security-related deliverables (reports, frameworks, guidelines, training materials) as required
  • Provide technical consultation on:
    • Secure Development Lifecycle (SDL)
    • Vulnerability assessments & hardenings
    • Risk management and mitigation
  • Support vulnerability scanning and triage, ensuring effective remediation
  • Foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams (Software, Hardware, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Corporate)
  • Create, share, and refine industry best practices with minimal guidance to ensure continuous improvement

Core Requirements

  • Strong time management and prioritisation, capable of thriving in high-pressure environments
  • Technical expertise in:
    • Secure Development Lifecycle
    • Encryption, hardening, and VLAN/network security principles
    • Security risk assessment methodologies
  • Highly self-motivated, with keen attention to detail
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to determine required depth of analysis
  • Proven understanding of the domain as it pertains to cyber security

Preferred Attributes

  • Excellent written, spoken, and interpersonal communication, capable of translating technical insights into accessible IT/end-user language
  • Outward-thinking approach with the ability to research solutions, drawing insights from suppliers, academia, and peer industries
  • Experience in team-driven or autonomous environments, with the flexibility to adapt roles as needed
  • Eagerness to grow competence through training, workshops, and upskilling initiatives
  • Capability to train and upskill others, ensuring organisational capability develops in line with cyber security priorities
  • Professional courage to address concerns about product safety and functionality with evidence-based authenticity
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and interlinked disciplines beyond cybersecurity
