Systems Design Engineer
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Systems Design Engineer to join a specialist Systems Engineering department, supporting the development and delivery of software updates, system enhancements, and performance analysis activities across complex defence products.
This role involves delivering systems engineering activities across the full product lifecycle, including requirements management, system architecture development, interface definition, verification planning, performance modelling, and coordination of technical stakeholders to support the certification and acceptance of advanced engineering systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of systems engineering activities associated with software updates, product improvements and system development programmes.
- Conduct requirements elicitation, management, traceability and validation activities.
- Develop and justify system architectures, including interface definitions and design documentation.
- Support the creation of proving strategies, verification plans and evidence required for certification.
- Perform system performance modelling and technical studies to support key design decisions.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across areas including software, hardware, simulation, modelling, guidance, control and other specialist engineering functions.
- Support design reviews and engage with internal teams, customers, and technical stakeholders.
- Produce clear and concise engineering documentation to support system assurance activities.

Requirements
The ideal candidate would have:
- Experience working within a systems engineering environment across multiple stages of the engineering lifecycle.
- Experience supporting requirements, architecture, verification and certification activities.
- Experience with system performance analysis, modelling or functional chain engineering would be beneficial.
- Experience working with complex products or multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand and communicate complex technical information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A willingness to develop systems engineering skills and expand technical knowledge across new engineering domains.
The ideal candidate must have:
- Proven systems engineering experience within a complex engineering environment.
- Ability to manage technical information, requirements and engineering documentation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with subject matter experts and stakeholders across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver high-quality engineering outputs.
