Systems Designer – Persistent Universe Team
Cloud Imperium is looking for an enthusiastic Systems Designer to join our UK studio in Manchester, where we're expanding our Persistent Universe for Star Citizen.
About The Role
As a Systems Designer, you will:
- Design feature concepts and game mechanics for Star Citizen!
- Report to the Lead Designer and collaborate with Creative Directors
- Contribute to the Persistent Universe feature team
- Leave your mark on the Star Citizen Universe
Key Responsibilities
Core Tasks
- Collaborate with design and development teams to create features
- Define rules, intentions, and balance for game systems
- Document concepts and features for cross-team use
- Refine systems based on analytics and playtest data
- Communicate design visions effectively across departments
- Identify new trends, mechanics, and features fitting Star Citizen’s fantasy
- Prototype ideas using existing tools and assets to validate fun

What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- Passion for crafting the largest space sim in development
- Industry experience with ownership of major gameplay features/systems
- Strong portfolio (personal or professional)
- Familiarity with:
- Game and systems design
- Feedback, controls, usability, balancing, and UI/UX principles
- Ability to rapidly prototype ideas
- Enthusiasm for:
- Sci-Fi culture (games, films, literature, etc.)
- Problem-solving in design via visual/text scripting & programming
- Stronghousekeeping: Work seamlessly alone or in large teams
- Exceptional communication skills—collaborate well with mixed disciplines
