The Role

The Systems Development Manager is responsible for leading the development and ongoing evolution of Gamma’s telecom support systems, including:

  • Voice network operations
  • Troubleshooting
  • Diagnostics
  • Reporting
  • Automated test capabilities

Daily Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the systems development function for Telecoms support systems used by Voice Operations and Engineering
  • Provide technical and people leadership to:
    • Systems Developers
    • Test Automation Engineers
    • Infrastructure and Automation Engineers
  • Serve as the accountable technical authority for systems development in the voice domain, making strategic build vs. buy and investment decisions
  • Translate operational, engineering, and product needs into a coherent multiyear roadmap for:
    • Voice network troubleshooting
    • Diagnostics
    • Reporting
    • Automated testing
  • Ensure support systems are scalable, resilient, and secure, aligned with carrier-grade telecom environments
  • Oversee development and maintenance of automated test frameworks and environments for:
    • Functional
    • Performance
    • Resilience testing of voice platforms
  • Set clear engineering standards and practices covering:
    • Software quality
    • Test automation
    • CI/CD
    • Monitoring
    • Operational readiness
  • Collaborate closely with Voice Engineering, Operations, Architecture, and Product teams to prioritise requirements and deliver effective, integrated solutions
  • Ensure systems are observable and operable in production, with:
    • Appropriate metrics, logging, alerting
    • Clear documentation
  • Manage:
    • Team capacity
    • Delivery commitments
    • Technical risk
    • Predictable outcomes
    • Continuous improvement

Requirements

You must have proven experience in the following areas:

  • Team leadership:
    • Led engineering teams delivering PHP-based backend systems
    • Supported internal platforms (monitoring dashboards, reporting systems, diagnostics services)
  • Technical authority (without primarily hands-on contribution):
    • PHP microservices, legacy systems engineering
    • Ensuring scalability, maintainability, and architecture alignment
  • Systemsdevelopment experience:
    • Built and operated internal platforms or support systems for operational/engineering teams
    • Monitored, diagnosed, reported, or supported networks
    • Managed technical roadmaps from business/operational requirements
  • Architecture experience:
    • Experience with distributed/microservice-based systems in production
  • Technical and operational practices:
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Software quality (testing, deployment)
    • Collaboration with Infrastructure/Automation/DevOps engineers
  • Stakeholder management:
    • Effective communication (technical and non-technical)
    • Documentation and team leadership
  • Soft skills:
    • Coaching, development, and performance management of engineers
