Systems Engineer Role

The Systems Engineer role is responsible for coordination, support, management, and execution of L2 Level proactive and reactive maintenance activities to ensure that services provided to customers are continuously available and performing to Service Level Agreement (SLA) performance levels.

This role will require security clearance.


Core Responsibilities

  • L1-Fault Management Level Assurance Support Activities
  • L1-Fault Management Level Incident Management
  • Responsible for L1-FM level operation and maintenance (O&M) of data & systems delivery solutions and services
  • Support the 2nd level team in meeting or exceeding data & system network availability targets and responsibilities
  • Work within well-defined system support guidelines
  • Prioritise faults to meet SLA/WLA (Workload Level Agreements)
  • Conduct L1-FM level investigation of alarms and faults/causes related to system/network problems
  • Ensure accurate working methodologies
  • Coordinate with all teams to handle emergencies, and where required, coordinate with stakeholders (MSIP)
  • Troubleshoot alarms, trouble tickets, and perform L1-FM level fault investigations related to system/network problems
  • Participate in internal discussions to improve overall network performance and make actionable recommendations

Key Requirements

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, or relevant equivalent field

Industry Experience

  • IP/Data/System/ISP/Enterprise technologies

Experience Level

  • 2-6 years of practical hands-on knowledge

Skills & Qualities

  • Superb interpersonal skills, with an ability to handle end customers to ensure problems are addressed

Technical Proficiency

  • Advanced knowledge of *nix systems, RedHat Linux, and associated systems such as satellite
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP and standard protocol suites (ARP, ICMP, TCP, UDP, TFTP, DNS, HTTP, NTP, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting experience in complex server network environments
  • Experience with key ISP technologies, including DNS, RADIUS, NTP, DHCP
  • Expertise with multi-vendor server hardware platforms, such as Oracle, HP, Cisco, NetApp, and Unified / Hyperconverged systems (Dell VxRail, Cisco UCS)
  • Technical experience with virtualisation technologies, such as VMWare ESXi / VSAN, KVM
  • Understanding of network routing/switching protocols and load balancers

Soft Skills & Work Attributes

  • Ability to deliver results and meet customer expectations
  • Ability to influence, persuade, and mobilise internal/external resources to fulfil customer requirements
  • Strong organisational skills, adept at multi-tasking, problem-solving, and strategic thinking
  • Ability to communicate concisely in reports/feedback, adapting to the audience’s needs
  • Ability to influence multi-customer NOC teams to ensure high-quality fault tickets that meet field engineer requirements
