Working as part of the systems engineering team, you will support the definition, interpretation and development of the customer and system level network requirements.
This role will involve architecture network design across a range of products with rationalisation and commonality one of the main objectives, whilst pushing new technologies and feature content to enhance and satisfy the customer requirements.
You will provide technical support to the delivery of the system network design. You will evaluate multiple system network designs to arrive at a harmonised solution that meets the required project attributes. Additionally you will be responsible for preparing the system level and module level requirements specifications in conjunction with developing functional designs to demonstrate how the customer requirements will be satisfied through the proposed design.
Responsibilities
- Translate the ‘voice of the customer’ (internal and external) into a list of clear concise requirements and deliverables.
- Selection of correct hardware/network platform(s) to deliver the technical solution, considering environmental and cost targets.
- Thrive in a fast agile environment, developing prototype solutions to validate proof of concept ideas.
- Creation of network architecture to satisfy delivery of the requirements.
- Co-ordination of 3rd party support vendors with the creation of requirements and corresponding network architectures.
- Ensuring robust and reliable ECU communication protocols are followed in line with industry best practice (SAE J1939, Ethernet, BT, WIFI).
- Be able to read electronic schematic diagrams and their electrical wiring diagram counterpart.
- Ensure design for manufacture is considered, both relating to build of the programming and parameter configuration of selected solution.
- Have a keen interest in monitoring the health and status of the system, via on board diagnostic protocols or over the air communications.
- Work inline with industry standard development techniques ie V Model and software development processes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
