# Systems Engineer – L2 Proactive & Reactive Maintenance (Reading, UK)
The Systems Engineer role ensures continuous high availability and performance of services according to Service Level Agreements, coordinating proactive and reactive maintenance across L2 support.
Security Requirement
- Mandatory security clearance required for this position.
Key Responsibilities
L1-Fault Management Support & Maintenance
- Coordinated proactive/reactive maintenance for data and system delivery solutions
- Conduct L1 Fault Management (L1-FM) investigation and resolution of alarms, fault causes, and system/network issues
- Prioritise and escalate issues to meet SLA/WLA targets
- Maintain adherence to well-defined system support guidelines
- Support 2nd-level team success in achieving network availability targets
Incident & Crisis Management
- Ensure accurate, structured L1-FM working methodologies
- Coordinate cross-team effort in emergencies, liaising with MSIP stakeholders if needed
- Participate in discussions to enhance network performance, proposing recommendations
- Support trouble ticket resolution and L1-FM fault investigations
- Lead or assist fault ticket quality control discussions with multi-customer NOC teams

Required Experience & Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering
- 2–6 years of practical experience in:
- IP, Data, System/ISP/Enterprise environments
- Proven ability to troubleshoot in complex environments with exposure to:
- DNS, RADIUS, NTP, DHCP
- Multi-vendor server platforms: Oracle, HP, Cisco, NetApp, Dell VxRail, Cisco UCS
- Virtualization: VMWare ESXi/VSAN, KVM
- TCP/IP protocols: ARP, ICMP, TCP/UDP, TFTP, NOS
- Routing/switching protocols, load balancers
