Systems Engineer Salary Range: £38,000 - £48,000
Senior Systems Engineer Salary Range: £44,500 - £56,000
Principal Systems Engineer Salary Range: £53,500 - £68,000
Lead Systems Engineer Salary Range: £59,500 - £75,000
About the Role
Leonardo UK operates a grade-based salary framework with broad bands. The salary ranges reflect approved grade bands for each role, or narrower hiring ranges documented within those bands. Benchmarked against the external market, exceptions above the standard range are managed to ensure internal equity.

Responsibilities
As part of our EO/IR Systems Engineering team, you’ll work across multiple stages of the system lifecycle, contributing critical expertise to:
- Requirements capture, definition, development, and modelling
- Manufacture, test, verification, and validation
- Improving systems engineering processes across the full lifecycle
- Collaborating in integrated project teams to design, build, and deliver EO/IR equipment
- Driving improvement in the UK engineering community, championing advances in systems engineering

Requirements
To excel in this role, you’ll bring proven experience in systems engineering within an EO/IR environment, with demonstrated proficiency in:
- Core systems engineering: requirements management, system definition, modelling, validation, and full engineering lifecycle application
- Technical specialisms: EO/IR systems, control systems, detection, tracking, imaging, and navigation
- Technical tools/methods: systems engineering methodologies, modelling tools, analytical skills supporting “systems thinking”
Your background in any combination of these areas will enable you to directly contribute to our leading-edge projects.
Security Clearance
Before joining, successful candidates are subject to pre-employment screening under the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). You’ll also face additional security controls, which may include:
- Security Clearance (SC)
- Developed Vetting (DV)
