Salary Range

  • Systems Engineer: £38,000 to £48,000
  • Senior Systems Engineer: £44,500 to £56,000
  • Principal Systems Engineer: £53,500 to £68,000
  • Lead Systems Engineer: £59,500 to £75,000

Work Environment

  • Location: Full-time on-site attendance in Edinburgh required.
  • Department: Aive Inflight, where Electromagnetics and Antenna design meet innovation.
  • Team: You’ll work under the Antenna Lead Technical Specialist, collaborating with a fiercely talented cohort specialising in design, simulation, testing, and analysis of Phased Array Antennas.

What You’ll Do

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead or contribute to R&D projects to advance design, simulation, and measurement capabilities.
  • Craft or refine phased array antenna systems – from concept to integration, testing, and performance analysis.
  • Use Electromagnetic (EM) simulation software (e.g., VNA, Spectrum Analysers) to analyse non-linear sensor designs and their impact on aircraft ‘stealth’ profiles.
  • Execution of antenna and electromagnetic measurement campaigns to validate theoretical models. -Technical assessments and system/subsystem modelling, ensuring designs align with overarching performance goals.
  • Collaborate with Antenna test engineers to define, develop, and analyze test procedures, plans, and deliver reports in multiple formats (technical reports, presentations, automated reports).
  • Contribute to technical planning and progress reporting for development/test campaigns.

Technical Requirements (Must-Have)

Education

  • A degree in a STEM field (e.g., Physics, Math, Electrical/ Electronic Engineering, System Engineering).

Experience/Subjects

  • Proficiency or postgraduate study in:
    • Electromagnetic engineering
    • Antenna design, modeling, and measurement
    • Computational Electromagnetic Modelling (CEM)
    • RF/system design, microwave engineering
    • Low Observables or Stealth Technology

Core Skills

  • Advanced numerical problem-solving with applies to rapid, problem-solving under development constraints.
  • Computer literacy: Working knowledge of MATLAB for data processing – adaptability to other tools (Python, Fortran, etc.) is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical skills with a knack for breaking down complex topics and communicating clearly to cross-functional teams.
  • Stellar interpersonal and communication skills to engage with engineers, managers, subject matter experts, and external clients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degrees such as a Masters in Antenna Design/EM, Propagation Modelling, Microwave Engineering, or Data Science.
  • Practical experience in real-world testing of phased arrays or microwave components using standard RF test systems (e.g., Vector Network Analyzer [VNA], Spectrum Analyzer).
  • CST Microwave STUDIO familiarity or similar skills in commercial or in-house EM simulations.

Security Clearance Requirements

Applicants must clear pre-employment screening, including UK Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and potentially National Security Vetting (NSV) (Training Credentials provided via Leonardo Careers UK).
