Senior Mining Geotechnical Engineer – Tailings & Waste Rock Disposal

About the Role
Join our team of engineers, scientists, and modellers as a Senior Mining Geotechnical Engineer, responsible for:

Providing specialised technical input for high-impact projects worldwide, including:
- Tailings management facilities
- Heap leach facilities
- Water impoundments
- Waste rock dump design
- Soil mechanics and soil improvement methods
- Geosynthetic materials engineering
- Related civil engineering solutions

Supporting project delivery by:
- Managing own involvement in projects (time, budget, and quality control)
- Preparing technical reports, drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and cost estimates
- Assisting project managers in hitting project targets

Building strong client relationships by:
- Representing WSP on site and providing hands-on expertise
- Assisting clients in solving engineering challenges
- Supporting construction of WSP designs (both domestically and internationally)

Facilitating internal collaboration by:
- Participating in cross-functional networks (including WSP’s Europe Mining Team meetings)
- Providing mentoring & coaching to graduate team members
- Supporting business development efforts (e.g., technical proposal preparation)

Ideal Candidates
We’re looking for a degree-qualified Civil/Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist with a passion for soil mechanics, complemented by the following:
Key Strengths & Experience
✔ Proven expertise in soil mechanics (theoretical and practical) ✔ Mining & geotechnical experience relating to mine waste disposal/facilities ✔ Technical reporting & client liaison skills – including supporting project teams, projects, and consultations ✔ Project management experience, balancing client needs with technical precision ✔ Ability to interpret & monitor geotechnical data using industry tools (e.g., finite element analysis, simulation software) ✔ Familiarity with national & international design guidelines (e.g., tailings facility codes, geotechnical standards) ✔ Willingness & capacity for travel:
- Prescribed travel within the UK and internationally (often requiring overnight stays)
- Potential assignments to remote project sites
