Tailings / Geotechnical Engineer
Mining & Geotechnical Modeller (Soil Mechanics) – WSP

A Little More About Your Role
You’ll work as part of a diverse team of engineers, scientists, and modellers, assisting in:
- Project delivery from conceptual design through to detailed design and engineering
- Providing specialised technical input for:
- Tailings management facilities
- Heap leach facilities
- Water impoundments
- Waste rock dump design
- Soil mechanics and soil improvement methods
- Geosynthetic materials engineering
- Relevant civil engineering work
- Assisting project managers in the successful delivery of projects, including:
- Time management
- Budget control
- Quality control
- Preparing technical deliverables such as:
- Technical reports
- Drawings
- Specifications
- Bills of quantities
- Cost estimates
This role offers exciting opportunities to travel both within the UK and internationally to:
- Assist clients in solving engineering problems
- Support construction of WSP designs
Travel outside the UK typically requires overnight stays, depending on the project’s nature and client needs.
You’ll develop relationships with clients and represent WSP on-site, along with liaising with:
- The Mining Team (both nationally and internationally)
- Participation in Europe’s Mining Team meetings (as required)
Key additional responsibilities include:
- Mentoring and coaching junior team members at graduate level
- Assisting with business development activities, such as preparing technical proposals
- Adhering to WSP’s values, Code of Conduct, and Equality Policy
- Promoting a safety-first attitude:
- Following WSP’s Health and Safety Policy
- Raising safety concerns through appropriate channels
- Ensuring interdependent Health and Safety culture

What We Needs You To Demonstrate
Essential:
✔ Degree qualified in:
- Civil engineering
- Geotechnical engineering
- Engineering geology
- With a strong emphasis on soil mechanics and proven experience
✔ Knowledge of:
- National and international design guidelines and regulations
✔ Mining and Geotechnical Experience relating to:
- Mine waste disposal and facilities
✔ Ability to:
- Interpret and monitor results from geotechnical analysis
- Use tools to:
- Design geotechnical structures
- Assist clients with operational requirements
✔ Project Management and Consultancy Experience:
- Supporting client relationships
- Managing projects and teams
✔ Teamwork & Flexibility:
- Experience working effectively in a team environment
- Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally, including to remote locations
