About the Role
As part of our diverse team of engineers, scientists, and modellers, you’ll play a critical role from conceptual design to detail design and engineering. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing specialised technical input focused on:
- Tailings management facilities
- Heap leach facilities
- Water impoundments
- Waste rock dump design
- Soil mechanics, improvement methods, and geosynthetic materials
- Related civil engineering for global projects
- Assisting project managers in delivering successful outcomes by managing your contributions in terms of time, budget, and quality control
- Preparing:
- Technical reports
- Drawings
- Specifications
- Bills of quantities
- Cost estimates
- Timely travel opportunities within the UK and internationally to assist clients with engineering challenges and support WSP’s design implementations. Overnight stays may be required, depending on project needs.
- Developing and maintaining strong client relationships, both new and existing, and representing WSP effectively on-site.
- Collaborating with WSP’s Mining Team networks, including participation in Europe’s Mining Team meetings and calls as needed.
- Mentoring and coaching team members at graduate levels to support their growth.
- Assisting with business development activities, such as preparing technical proposals.
- Upholding WSP’s values and ethical standards—adhering to the WSP Code of Conduct and promoting a ‘safety first’ culture. Regularly reviewing your understanding of safety policies.
- Ensuring all actions align with WSP’s Equality Policy.

What We’ll Be Looking for You to Demonstrate
We seek degree-qualified candidates in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, or engineering geology, with expertise in soil mechanics. Key requirements include:
- Proven knowledge of national and international design guidelines and regulations.
- Specialised mining and geotechnical experience, particularly in mine waste disposal/facilities.
- Ability to interpret and apply geotechnical data, using tools to design geotechnical structures and assist clients with operational needs.
- Hands-on project management and consultancy experience, including:
- Supporting client relationships
- Structuring projects and project teams
- Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- A commitment to travel within the UK and internationally, including remote environments when required.
