Tax Accountant
Location: Hertfordshire (Hybrid Working)
Salary: Up to £65,000 + Excellent Benefits
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tax Accountant to join a well-established and growing organisation based in Hertfordshire. Working as part of a collaborative finance function, you will play a key role in managing both direct and indirect tax compliance, providing expert advice across the business, and supporting ongoing finance transformation initiatives.
This role offers excellent exposure across multiple tax disciplines, business partnering opportunities, and involvement in key projects, making it ideal for a tax professional looking to broaden their experience in a commercial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit VAT and Plastic Packaging Tax returns, ensuring accurate and timely compliance.
- Manage corporation tax computations and filings, including the preparation and submission of returns through tax software.
- Support the development and implementation of tax processes and controls within a new finance system.
- Help maintain compliance with Senior Accounting Officer requirements through robust controls and documentation.
- Partner with operational teams to maximise capital allowance opportunities.
- Provide tax guidance and support to Finance, HR, Property, Commercial, and Accounts Payable teams.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisers and respond to tax authority enquiries and correspondence.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation, assessing business impact and implementing necessary process improvements.
- Investigate and resolve VAT issues, identifying root causes and strengthening controls.
- Deliver tax training and support to stakeholders across the business.
- Handle day-to-day tax queries from internal teams.
- Contribute to a variety of tax-related projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You
- Qualified or part-qualified ACA, ACCA, CTA, ATT, or equivalent.
- Strong experience in UK corporate tax and indirect tax compliance.
- Good understanding of VAT and broader UK tax legislation.
- Experience working within a commercial, corporate, or practice environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Able to communicate complex tax matters clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Proactive, organised, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Comfortable working across departments and building strong stakeholder relationships.
- Experience supporting system implementations or process improvement projects would be advantageous.
