Tax Accountant
Job Title
Tax Accountant
Function
Finance – Financial Control
Role Overview
NHS Supply Chain currently has an opportunity for a Tax Accountant to join their Finance team, supporting the delivery of accurate, efficient, and well-controlled tax processes during a period of transformation. The role is ideal for a qualified accountant with an interest in tax, data and process improvement, rather than a tax specialist. Tax technical computations and advice are managed by external advisors, ensuring the focus remains on data quality, process ownership, analysis, and coordination to produce accurate outputs.
Key Responsibilities
Core Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Support corporation tax compliance, coordinating end-to-end processes including the preparation of data packs, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for review by external advisors before submission.
- Prepare high-quality tax data, reconciliations, and analysis for quarterly and year-end processes, including provisions and disclosures for statutory accounts, as well as contributing relevant tax inputs into forecasting and financial planning.
Employment & Payroll Taxes
- Manage employment taxes and Pay As You Earn (PAYE) Settlement Agreements (PSAs), extracting, reconciling data, and ensuring accurate and timely PAYE SA submissions.
- Edit and validate relevant employee expenses and benefits, ensuring compliance and clarity.
Data-Driven Insights & Audit
- Extract, interrogate, and analyse tax-relevant data in Oracle Fusion systems, maintaining clear audit trails and supporting schedules.
- Investigate tax movements by diagnosing variances, identifying key drivers, and communicating findings effectively to Finance teams, auditors, and stakeholders.
Audit & Governance Support
- Act as a key operational contact for internal and external audits, coordinating responses, documentation, and supporting evidence.
HMRC Engagement & Business Collaboration
- Respond to HMRC queries while maintaining transparent tax governance processes.
- Partner with Finance teams, external advisors, and auditors to provide accurate and compliant outputs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
