Job Description
Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in Derbyshire for a Tax Advice and Compliance Manager to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will act as the principal tax specialist, leading and managing the tax compliance and advice function, meeting all statutory obligations relating to taxes the organisation is exposed to, developing robust controls, and supporting strategic decision making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Council's tax compliance function, managing VAT, employment taxes, property taxes and CIS while ensuring full compliance with HMRC legislation and reporting requirements.
- Provide specialist tax advice on complex transactions, capital projects, property acquisitions and disposals, regeneration schemes, and employment tax matters including IR35 and benefits in kind.
- Develop and maintain robust tax governance, internal controls and organisational guidance, leading HMRC enquiries, audits, training programmes and tax risk management.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, external advisers and HMRC, contributing to strategic financial planning, business cases and organisational decision-making.

Candidate Criteria
- Fully CCAB qualified with significant experience in tax compliance within a complex organisation.
- Strong technical knowledge across UK VAT, employment taxes, property taxes and CIS, with experience managing HMRC enquiries, audits and negotiations.
- Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax legislation and provide clear, practical advice.
- Experience improving financial processes, controls and governance, with the ability to manage competing priorities and influence decision-making at senior level.
