Tax Advisor - VAT

Tax Advisor – VAT (UK, HU, PL, PT)

Responsibilities

VAT Advisory

  • Serve as a trusted tax advisor, providing expert guidance on VAT compliance and tax-efficient transaction structuring across European markets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external tax advisors to ensure accurate application of VAT regulations.
  • Handle ad hoc VAT inquiries from the business, offering timely and practical solutions.
  • Ensure compliance and optimization of business projects and transactions from a VAT perspective.

VAT Reporting & E-Invoicing

  • Provide advisory support for VAT reporting initiatives, including e-invoicing projects.
  • Ensure adherence to local and cross-border VAT rules.
  • Oversee accuracy and efficiency of VAT data submissions across platforms.

Audit & Inquiries Support

  • Support responses to VAT audits and inquiries from European tax authorities.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation and formulate detailed responses to ensure smooth audit processes.

Tax Control Framework

  • Contribute to developing and enhancing the company’s tax control framework for indirect taxes.
  • Design and refine tax policies, procedures, and testing mechanisms for compliance and efficiency.

VAT Awareness & Training

  • Drive VAT awareness across the organization via training programs, guidelines, and practical solutions.
  • Equip business teams with VAT knowledge to support proactive compliance.
  • Monitor EU VAT legislation changes and ensure timely updates.

Communication & Relationship Management

  • Build strong internal networks and collaborate across departments on VAT objectives.
  • Maintain external relationships with tax authorities, industry associations, and consultants to stay informed.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Tax Law or Fiscal Economics
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in VAT advisory, preferably with:
    • Experience in Big4 firms and/or in-house roles at multinational corporations
  • Excellent language skills:
    • Fluent English (written/verbal)
    • Proficiency in at least one additional language
  • Ability to apply abstract concepts to practical situations
  • Strong independent VAT advisory experience
  • Strong soft skills, including:
    • Communication, flexibility, and innovative thinking
    • Experience with senior management interactions
    • Analytical skills, judgement, and decision-making
    • Ability to work independently
