Tax Assistant Manager – Japan Practice - Global Mobility Services
Base Location: London with a network of 20 offices nationally

We are looking for a Global Mobility Services (GMS) Assistant Manager to work in our London team across Japan-HQ clients.
KPMG's Global Mobility Services (GMS) practice is a diverse and fast-growing area of our Tax business. We serve the biggest names in the Financial Services community, with high-profile engagements touching every corner of the world.
Our GMS engagement teams are “360-degree service oriented”, with tax technical, team leadership, and client-facing responsibilities as part of each successful manager’s remit.
You’ll advise on complex people challenges, including future of work trends such as cross-border working, remote working and virtual assignments. Working alongside multi-disciplinary experts, such as tax, technology, immigration, and mobility administration services and using some of the best technology solutions in the market, you’ll have the support and tools to create opportunities for our clients – and for your career.
What will you be doing?
- Assisting engagement managers with the day to day global coordination and/or UK service delivery of client engagements (dependent on the client portfolio).
- Focusing on Japan-HQ businesses, build, maintain and lead strong relationships with contacts at the company.
- Acting as client interface for UK tax compliance, and working closely with various KPMG teams to deliver on all aspects of assignee compliance.
- Talk to clients about income tax returns and NIC calculations.
- Being the day to day contact for allocated clients.
- Recognising and seizing opportunities to further grow the Japan team in the UK.
- Building and developing positive constructive relationships within KPMG UK and the KPMG network.
- Assessing problems from multiple angles to ensure all relevant issues are considered when making decisions.
- Preparation of written UK tax technical advice for clients and helping to advise clients on GMS issues.
- Conducting arrival and departure briefings.
- Project management of global advisory projects for clients, covering tax, social security, process, policy and efficiencies.
- Updating clients on GMS developments.
- Managing and coaching junior team members.
- Assisting engagement managers with financial management of clients.
- Participating in proposals/business development.

What will you need to do it?
- Understanding of Japanese professional practices and business customs.
- Excellent written and spoken English, as well as competency in Japanese.
- Previous experience co-ordinating global tax services for Japan-HQ clients.
- Takes time to learn about other people and their experiences and how to apply this learning.
- Shares experiences with others to assistant their learning and understanding.
- Demonstrates curiosity and open mindedness to new ideas approaches and perspectives.
- Actively engages with others in order to address their views/concerns.
- Experience of managing global assignee populations and experience of immigration, social security and compensation accumulation for different countries.
- High level of personal responsibility and accountability for own work.
- Energetic, committed and ambitious.
- Analytical; identifies core issues, investigates, evaluates and integrates information.
- Communicates with impact, both in spoken and written communication and in a way that is open, honest, consistent and clear.

- Experience working in expatriate/global mobility tax services in Big 4 or equivalent.
- Prior experience in an in-house Global Mobility / HR team or working overseas would be beneficial but is not required.

Qualifications and Skills
- ACA/ATT qualified or equivalent preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills are preferred.
- Microsoft Power BI experience for reporting is welcome but not essential.
