Key Responsibilities

Associates handle a broad, fulfilling workload, including:

  • Corporate & Private Capital

    • Full-range tax support for public/private M&A (acquisitions, IPOs, reorganisations), restructurings, returns of capital, joint ventures, and private capital transactions.
  • Finance & Restructuring

    • Tax advisory for corporate financing, debt/equity structuring, plus innovative refinancing/investor solutions in turbulent markets.
  • Real Estate

    • Addressing tax implications for developers, institutional investors, lenders, and fund managers across UK/overseas markets.
  • Tax Disputes

    • Strategic representation for clients facing complex subsidiary/fundamental UK/international disputes. Track record of out-of-court settlements. Work may involve claim callbacks, adversarial tax investigations, and contentious transfer-pricing support.
  • Cross-Border Collaborations

    • Leverage Freshfields’ global network to address multinational tax risks, advised by lawyers in multiple offices.
    • Opportunities for international assignments in-house or abroad with clients.

Requirements

  • Qualification: Admitted as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.
  • Technical expertise: Profound knowledge of tax doctrine and compliance frameworks.
  • Commercial awareness: Ability to apply knowledge to an array of corporate decisions.
  • Sophisticated relationship building: Adroit teamwork and client-facing communication (both written and verbal).
  • Leadership readiness: Ownership over client files, critical workload management, and business development initiatives.
  • Adoption of freshFutures values: Contribution to inclusivity, knowledge-sharing, and proactive culture.
