We have an exciting opportunity for an associate to join our Tax Disputes and Investigations team to work on specialist contentious tax matters. The role will involve working closely with Hugh Gunson, our Head of Tax Disputes and Investigations.

The team’s work is very broad, involving handling tax disputes and investigations for a wide range of clients, from internationally mobile high net worth clients and other private individuals, family businesses and trustees, through to entrepreneurs and corporates, both small and large. These cover the full range of UK taxes, both direct and indirect; including income tax, CGT, inheritance tax, SDLT, corporation tax and VAT. A significant element of the team’s work involves remedying unsuccessful planning (often involving complex trust arrangements), including claims for mistake and rectification in both the UK and offshore jurisdictions, as well as handling tax-related professional negligence disputes and other trust and commercial disputes with a tax angle.

Tax disputes and investigations work is seen as a key growth area for the Firm. Hugh Gunson is ranked Band 4 Contentious Tax in Chambers and Band 1 Tax Private Client in Chambers HNW, with the Firm ranked Band 2.

The Tax Disputes and Investigations Team sits within the Firm’s wider, market-leading Private Wealth Disputes team.

Roles & Responsibilities

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
