The successful candidate will have extensive experience managing complex HMRC enquiries and disputes, including COP8 and COP9 investigations, alongside the commercial ability and network to generate new opportunities, build referral relationships, and bring in work.

This role would suit a senior tax disputes specialist looking for a platform where they can have genuine influence, shape strategy, and play a key role in the continued growth of a boutique firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading complex HMRC tax disputes and investigations, including COP8 and COP9 matters.
  • Providing strategic advice to high-net-worth individuals, business owners, and professional advisers.
  • Managing client relationships and acting as a trusted adviser on contentious tax matters.
  • Developing and executing business development strategies to identify and win new opportunities.
  • Building strong referral networks with accountants, lawyers, wealth advisers, and other professional intermediaries.
  • Converting opportunities into new client engagements and contributing directly to revenue growth.
  • Representing the firm externally through networking, events, and industry engagement.
  • Supporting the development of the wider tax disputes team and service offering.
  • Working closely with senior leadership to shape the future direction of the practice.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
