Tax Investigations Manager

I'm working exclusively with several Big Four firms seeking experienced Tax Investigations Managers to join their expanding Tax Disputes & Investigations teams across the Midlands. These teams advise multinational corporates, private businesses, and high-net-worth individuals on some of the UK's most complex and high-profile HMRC enquiries, disclosures, and tax disputes.
This is a genuine opportunity to work alongside market-leading specialists, gain exposure to technically demanding cases, and accelerate your career within a recognised centre of excellence.
The Role
As Tax Investigations Manager, you will:
- Manage a portfolio of complex HMRC enquiries and investigations from start to resolution
- Lead on COP8, COP9, voluntary disclosures, and civil tax fraud matters
- Represent clients in negotiations with HMRC, building robust technical responses and settlement strategies
- Advise on tax risk, compliance, and dispute resolution
- Support Partners and Directors on high-value, sensitive investigations
- Develop long-term client relationships and spot opportunities to add value
- Mentor junior team members and help grow the Tax Investigations practice

About You
- Significant experience managing HMRC enquiries and tax investigations within practice
- Strong technical knowledge of COP8, COP9, disclosures, and dispute resolution
- Previous HMRC experience (Fraud Investigation Service, Specialist Compliance, or Specialist Investigations) combined with practice experience is highly advantageous
- CTA, ACA, ACCA, ATT, or equivalent qualification
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills
- A commercial mindset and the ability to build trusted client relationships
