The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to join one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes – Sizewell C – a once-in-a-generation clean energy project that will help power over 6 million homes for decades to come.
Working within the Civil Works Alliance (a partnership between Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O'Rourke), you'll lead the tax function across one of Europe's largest infrastructure projects, ensuring robust governance, regulatory compliance and strategic tax management across a complex alliance environment.
As Tax Manager, you'll be the subject matter expert for all UK tax matters, providing trusted advice to Finance, Commercial, Procurement and HR teams while ensuring compliance across multiple legal entities and contractual arrangements. This is a unique opportunity to shape tax governance within a nationally significant infrastructure programme.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading all UK tax compliance activities across the Civil Works Alliance, ensuring full compliance with HMRC requirements
- Managing VAT, CIS and Domestic Reverse Charge obligations, ensuring accurate and timely submissions
- Overseeing IR35 compliance, including the preparation and approval of Status Determination Statements (SDS)
- Providing expert tax advice to Finance, Commercial, Procurement and HR teams to support business decisions and manage risk
- Managing employment tax compliance, including PAYE, National Insurance and CITB Levy reporting
- Developing and maintaining tax policies, governance frameworks and internal controls
- Identifying, assessing and mitigating tax risks while maintaining the project's Tax Risk Register
- Leading tax audits, HMRC enquiries and compliance reviews, acting as the key point of contact for tax-related matters
- Supporting international trade activities, including import VAT, customs duties and Postponed VAT Accounting (PVA)
- Leading the preparation and management of R&D tax credit claims, working closely with technical teams and external advisers
- Building strong relationships with alliance partners, external advisers, HMRC and key project stakeholders

What We're Looking For
- Significant UK tax experience, ideally within construction, infrastructure or engineering environments
- Strong technical knowledge of CIS, VAT, Domestic Reverse Charge, IR35, employment taxes and import VAT
- Experience managing tax compliance across complex organisations, partnerships or joint ventures
- Experience dealing directly with HMRC audits, enquiries and compliance reviews
- Strong understanding of UK tax legislation and governance frameworks
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and build trusted relationships
- A proactive approach with excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills
- Professional tax qualification (CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) would be highly desirable
- Experience with R&D tax relief claims and international tax matters would be advantageous
