I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Why This Role Matters
As a Tax Manager, you'll take ownership of tax and statutory compliance for Dext across a genuinely international footprint - the UK, Bulgaria, South Africa, Australia, US, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, and France. This is a rare opportunity for a tax professional stepping into their first standalone management role, offering both broad autonomy and the mentorship of the IRIS Group Head of Tax. Around a fifth of your time will also connect you to Group-level tax strategy, giving you visibility well beyond a typical in-house role.
What You'll Do
- Own end-to-end multi-jurisdictional tax compliance across nine countries, including corporation tax, VAT/GST, withholding tax, transfer pricing, and R&D tax credits
- Act as the key liaison between Dext and its external tax advisors globally, translating technical detail into practical guidance for the business
- Prepare the UK corporate tax return in-house, alongside tax provisions and cash tax forecasting
- Contribute to Group-wide tax matters (c. 20% of role), including Pillar Two, Corporate Criminal Offence compliance, transfer pricing policy, and M&A tax due diligence
