Tax Manager - European Customer Tax Specialist
Role Overview
The Global Tax Team plays an important role in mitigating risk and creating value for the business and its customers. The team partners with functions across the organisation, including Technology, Business Development, Accounting, Treasury, Customer Service and Marketing. The Global Tax Team sets tax policy, identifies and implements tax strategies, advises on the tax implications of product offerings, manages tax audits, and ensures financial reporting and tax returns are completed accurately and on time.
We are seeking a highly skilled tax professional to join the Global Tax Team, with a focus on customer taxes across European markets. The role will report to a senior international tax leader and work closely with colleagues across the global tax function to ensure comprehensive coverage of customer tax obligations. The initial focus will be on designing and developing customer tax statements for European retail clients. The role also requires strong technical knowledge of information reporting and withholding tax requirements across multiple European jurisdictions.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical tax knowledge of investment products with expertise in European retail investor tax obligations and broker information reporting and withholding requirements. They will be able to translate complex tax rules into practical operational processes, technology requirements and clear customer communications.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Tax Statement Development & Delivery
- Design, develop and maintain customer tax statements for European retail clients across investment products including equities, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, futures, options and other derivatives.
- Ensure tax statements comply with local tax reporting requirements across multiple European jurisdictions.
- Review and validate tax calculations covering capital gains and losses, dividends, interest income, withholding taxes and tax reclaim information.
- Partner with Technology teams to implement and enhance automated tax statement generation processes.
- Create customer-facing guidance explaining tax statements and reporting obligations.

Product & Market Analysis
- Research new and existing investment products and market launches to determine customer tax implications, reporting requirements and withholding tax obligations.
- Provide technical guidance on the tax treatment of investment products and transaction types.
- Draft functional requirements for information reporting and withholding tax systems.
- Develop and maintain tax calculation methodologies for complex products and cross-border transactions.
Research, Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor and analyse changes to tax laws affecting customer information reporting, withholding tax and tax statements across Europe.
- Assess the impact of legislative changes on processes and systems.
- Identify opportunities to automate customer tax documentation, reporting, withholding and tax statement generation.
- Develop standard operating procedures for tax reporting and withholding operations.
- Support the development and implementation of new tax technologies and automation.
- Contribute to broader customer tax and technology projects.
Experience & Qualifications Required
- 8–10+ years of tax experience, with a strong focus on the tax treatment of customer investment activity.
- Experience gained within financial services, brokerage, investment platforms, asset management, Big Four or specialist tax advisory.
- Strong knowledge of European information reporting and withholding tax requirements.
- Experience of country-specific reporting obligations across major European jurisdictions.
- Knowledge of withholding tax rules, treaty relief procedures and customer tax documentation requirements.
- Understanding of regulatory reporting frameworks including CRS and DAC reporting.
- Strong technical knowledge of the tax treatment of retail investors across:
- Equities and bonds
- Mutual funds, ETFs and collective investment schemes
- Futures, options, CFDs, warrants and other derivatives
- Foreign exchange transactions
- Corporate actions, including dividends, interest, stock splits, mergers and spin-offs
- Strong understanding of capital gains, dividend, interest and withholding tax rules across European markets.
- Knowledge of cross-border taxation, tax treaties and beneficial ownership concepts.
- Experience translating tax requirements into functional specifications for technology teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large datasets.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex tax matters to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to operate independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience
- Professional tax qualification such as CTA, ADIT, ATT or equivalent.
- Fluency in a major European language, particularly German or French.
- Experience with automated tax reporting, withholding systems or tax technology platforms.
- Direct experience within brokerage, investment platform or investment product operations.
- Experience covering tax reporting and withholding across multiple European jurisdictions, particularly Germany, France, the Netherlands and Italy.
- Knowledge of European financial transaction taxes.
- Experience managing tax audits or penalty abatement processes.
- Advanced legal or tax qualifications.
