Tax Manager (Direct Tax)
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Tax Manager (Direct Tax) based in United Kingdom.
As a Tax Manager (Direct Tax), you will play a key role in overseeing international direct tax operations across multiple jurisdictions while supporting the organization's global growth strategy. This position combines technical tax expertise with strategic thinking to ensure compliance, optimize tax processes, and manage cross-border tax matters effectively. Working in a fully remote and collaborative environment, you will partner with internal teams and external advisors to deliver high-quality tax solutions, mitigate risks, and drive continuous improvements. The role also offers the opportunity to mentor team members, contribute to tax planning initiatives, and leverage automation and AI-driven tools to enhance operational efficiency.
Accountabilities
- Oversee global direct tax compliance, ensuring accurate and timely preparation and submission of corporate income tax returns, withholding tax returns, and other direct tax filings across multiple jurisdictions.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to manage filings, documentation, reporting obligations, and maintain compliance with local tax regulations.
- Monitor and mitigate direct tax risks by identifying potential issues, implementing corrective actions, and maintaining strong relationships with tax authorities.
- Support and manage tax audits, inspections, and inquiries while ensuring effective communication with regulatory authorities.
- Provide strategic tax advice on international transactions, corporate structures, tax planning initiatives, and business expansion activities.
- Stay informed of changes in international tax legislation, tax treaties, and regulatory developments, adapting processes and strategies as needed.
- Collaborate closely with finance, legal, HR, and other business functions to ensure seamless tax compliance and reporting.
- Mentor and support tax professionals while contributing to process improvements through automation and AI-enabled solutions.

Requirements
- Proven experience in international direct taxation within a multinational organization or professional services environment.
- Strong knowledge of global corporate tax regulations, cross-border taxation, tax treaties, EU Directives, and international compliance requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Economics, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; a postgraduate qualification or Master's degree in Taxation is considered an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and leading or mentoring tax teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex tax matters and provide practical recommendations.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills with experience collaborating across international teams.
- Fluent English communication skills; additional languages are considered a plus.
- Experience in startup, fintech, or other fast-growing international businesses is advantageous.
- Previous experience working remotely is beneficial but not essential.
- Comfortable working with automation technologies and AI tools to improve tax processes and operational efficiency.
