Tax Manager
Tax Manager – VAT & Indirect Tax (International)

Role Overview
This is a hands-on tax role sitting within a small, high-performing Tax & Treasury team at the centre of Fanatics International’s finance function. Reporting directly to the Head of Tax & Treasury, the Tax Manager will take primary ownership of the Group’s monthly VAT compliance cycle across multiple jurisdictions, while also supporting wider tax compliance, ad hoc technical queries, and business partnering across the international business.
Key Responsibilities
VAT & Indirect Tax Compliance – Primary Ownership
- Own the end-to-end monthly VAT compliance process across UK and international entities, including:
- Preparation, review, and submission of returns across 20+ registrations in the UK, EU, and other international markets
- Maintaining and reconciling VAT ledger positions with clear audit trails and evidence
- Managing relationships with third-party compliance agents to ensure accurate, on-time filings
- Preparing VAT payment schedules and communicating cash flow implications of liabilities and reclaims to Treasury
- Maintaining the Group’s VAT registration portfolio, tracking deadlines, filing frequencies, and obligations across new markets
- Assisting with VAT technical issues, including supply classification, supply chain movements, and cross-border place of supply questions
- Managing VAT audits and tax authority correspondence, drafting responses and supporting schedules

Corporation Tax Compliance – Support & Coordination
- Act as the primary internal coordinator for corporation tax compliance across UK and international entities, including:
- Gathering information for external advisers
- Preparing supporting schedules (capital allowances, R&D analysis, intercompany transaction summaries) for UK corporation tax returns
- Assisting with tax provision workings and current/deferred tax calculations during financial close
- Supporting review and filing of international corporate tax returns, liaising with local advisers
- Helping maintain transfer pricing documentation, including data collection for local file submissions
Business Partnering & Ad Hoc Advisory
- Serve as the first point of contact for tax queries from Finance, Commercial, Legal, and Operations, providing clear, practical guidance without unnecessary jargon
- Support technical input on new commercial arrangements, such as marketplace launches and cross-border supply chains
- Assist with tax analysis of new market entries, including VAT registration, withholding tax, and customs duty implications
- Prepare briefing notes and internal communications on emerging tax developments (UK, EU, international)
- Controls, Governance, & Process Improvements
- Support the Group’s tax control framework (evidence for SAO certification)
- Maintain process documentation and compliance checklists
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy
- Prepare materials for the tax risk register and report to CFO and Finance leadership
What You’ll Bring to the Team
Essential:
- Proven experience in VAT/indirect tax, either from a Big 4 or mid-tier advisory firm, or an in-house compliance role
- Hands-on experience managing or materially contributing to a multi-entity VAT compliance cycle (preparation, reconciliation, and filing)
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach – takes ownership of compliance work and ensures nothing falls through the gaps
- Ability to communicate tax issues clearly to non-expert stakeholders without excessive jargon
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, shifting-priorities environment—able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously without sacrificing quality
- ACA, CTA, ATT qualification (or equivalent)

Desirable:
- Broader tax experience beyond VAT, including corporation tax compliance, transfer pricing, withholding taxes, or international indirect tax (e.g., GST, digital services taxes)
- Experience managing multiple jurisdictions simultaneously, particularly EU or global markets
- Familiarity with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, Oracle) and how VAT is determined at the transaction level
- Experience with indirect tax compliance platforms or tools (e.g., Avalara, OneSource)
- A background in e-commerce, retail, digital goods, or sports/entertainment – sectors where VAT supply chain complexity is the norm
