Tax Manager – GP Clients
Department: Tax
Location: Hilldean Office (flexible across office locations)
Reports To: Director
Our client, a well-established accounting and advisory practice, is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to focus on managing the tax affairs of GP and Medic clients. This primarily tax role demands robust technical expertise in personal and partnership taxation, alongside NHS pension-related matters, and strong advisory skills.
The ideal candidate will take a central role in coordinating tax compliance and advisory services, while providing clarity on GP practice accounts, interpreting and submitting superannuation certificates, and bridging the gap between financial and tax considerations for clients. This includes leading discussions on client meetings regarding accounts, tax planning, drawings, tax implications, and business performance.
NH provision will also be a crucial element of your work, requiring collaboration with the NHS to ensure compliance with the Annual Allowance Pension Savings Statement (AAPSS) process and manage RPPS reporting requirements and Associated Pension Scheme duties.

- Lead and oversee the tax compliance workflow for assigned GP clients
- Prepare, review, and submit (accurately and on-time) returns for personal income tax, partnership tax and related filings
- Deliver proactive tax planning and risk management advice to support clients
- Maintain full consistency with UK tax legislation, HMRC policies, and internal quality standards
- Investigate and resolve tax discrepancies or compliance issues efficiently
- Maintain comprehensive, auditable working papers for all tax computations and submissions
- Review and submit annual VAT Estimates (PCSE)
- Advise clients on drawings, profit allocations, withdrawals, and tax-efficient structures
GP Accounts Review and Client Liaison
- Conduct thorough account reviews for GP practices, identifying key areas needing client action
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of GP financial models and NHS accounting requirements
- Chair meetings with clients to review financial performance, discuss accounts, tax positions, and recommend actions
- Titrate between tax and accounts teams to ensure integrated and cohesive service delivery
- Provide client-facing financial and tax advice, leveraging expertise across both areas

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
