Tax Manager – Group VAT & Tax Compliance

Role Overview
This is a hands-on tax role within a small, high-performing Tax & Treasury team at the heart of Fanatics International’s finance function.
As Tax Manager, you will report directly to the Head of Tax & Treasury and take primary ownership of the Group’s monthly VAT compliance cycle across multiple jurisdictions. You will also support wider tax compliance, including direct and employment taxes, technical queries, and business partnering across the international business.
How You Will Make an Impact
VAT & Indirect Tax Compliance – Primary Ownership
- Own the end-to-end monthly VAT compliance process across UK and international entities, including:
- Preparation, review, and submission of returns across 20+ registrations (UK, EU, and other international markets)
- Maintaining and reconciling VAT ledger positions across entities, ensuring accuracy with clear audit trails
- Managing relationships with third-party compliance agents to guarantee accurate, on-time filings
- Preparing VAT payment schedules and communicating cash flow implications to Treasury
- Managing the Group’s VAT registration portfolio, tracking filing frequencies, deadlines, and obligations
- Assist with VAT technical queries (supply classification, supply chain movements, cross-border place of supply issues)
- Support VAT audits and correspondence with tax authorities, preparing draft responses and supporting schedules

Corporation Tax Compliance – Support & Coordination
- Serve as the primary internal coordinator for corporation tax compliance across UK and international entities, gathering data for external advisers
- Prepare supporting schedules for UK corporation tax returns, including:
- Capital allowances
- R&D analysis
- Intercompany transaction summaries
- Assist in tax provision workings and current/deferred tax calculations during financial close
- Support review and filing of international corporate tax returns, liaising with local advisers
- Help maintain transfer pricing documentation, including data gathering to support local files
Business Partnering & Ad Hoc Advisory
- Act as the first point of contact for tax queries from Finance, Commercial, Legal, and Operations teams, providing clear, practical guidance
- Provide technical input for new commercial arrangements (marketplace launches, cross-border supply chains)
- Assess tax implications of new market entries (VAT registration, withholding tax, customs duty analysis)
- Prepare briefing notes and internal communications on emerging tax developments across UK/EU and international markets
Controls, Governance & Process
- Support the Group’s tax control framework, including evidence for SAO certification
- Maintain process documentation and compliance checklists for consistency
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy
- Support preparation of materials for the tax risk register and reporting to CFO and Finance leadership
What You Bring to the Team
Essential Requirements
- Decade(s) of solid VAT/indirect tax experience, either from:
- Big 4 or mid-tier advisory firms
- Hands-on in-house compliance roles
- Demonstrable experience in managing or materially contributing to a multi-entity VAT compliance cycle, including:
- Return preparation
- Reconciliation
- Filing
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a methodical approach to compliance work—owning the accuracy of numbers and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks
- The ability to communicate tax issues clearly and confidently to non-tax colleagues, without jargon
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, multitasking effectively
- ACA, CTA, ATT, or equivalent qualification

Desirable Qualities
- Broader tax experience beyond VAT, such as:
- Corporation tax compliance
- Transfer pricing
- Withholding taxes
- International indirect tax (GST, digital services taxes)
- Experience working across multiple jurisdictions simultaneously, ideally within the EU or global markets
- Familiarity with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, Oracle) and how VAT is determined at the transaction level
- Usage of indirect tax compliance platforms (e.g., Avalara, OneSource)
- Background in e-commerce, retail, digital goods, or sports/entertainment, where VAT supply chain complexity is standard
