Tax Manager - Pure Advisory
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000
About Us
We are recruiting for a growing accountancy and business advisory practice seeking a Tax Manager to join its specialist Tax Advisory team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated tax professional with strong corporate tax experience to work across a varied portfolio of advisory projects. The role will involve supporting SMEs, owner-managed businesses, entrepreneurs and private clients with practical tax advice across areas such as corporate restructuring, shareholder planning, remuneration planning, succession, R&D tax relief, VAT, SDLT, CGT and IHT.
The position would suit someone already working in a tax-focused role, or an experienced accounts or audit professional with significant tax exposure who is looking to move into a more advisory-led position.
Responsibilities
- Deliver tax advisory services to SMEs, owner-managed businesses and private clients
- Prepare reports, advice letters and technical documentation for a range of tax advisory matters
- Liaise with HMRC regarding clearance applications, enquiries and technical correspondence
- Prepare tax calculations to support client advice and planning recommendations
- Advise on corporate reconstructions, reorganisations and shareholder planning
- Support clients with investor reliefs, including EIS and SEIS
- Assist with employee incentive schemes and remuneration planning
- Advise owner-managed businesses on succession planning and business tax matters
- Prepare and review R&D tax relief claims
- Assist with VAT, SDLT and other specialist tax returns where required
- Provide CGT and IHT planning advice for individuals and business owners
- Review complex corporation tax computations and returns
- Identify tax planning opportunities and provide commercial recommendations
- Attend client meetings alongside senior team members
- Train, support and review the work of junior staff
- Work closely with directors and partners on complex advisory projects

Requirements
- Proven experience in corporate tax advisory or significant tax experience within an accountancy practice
- Strong technical knowledge of corporation tax and business tax matters
- Experience advising SMEs and owner-managed businesses
- Knowledge of corporate reorganisations, shareholder planning and tax-efficient structuring
- Experience reviewing corporation tax computations and returns
- Ability to identify tax planning opportunities and provide clear, practical advice
- Strong written communication skills, including report and advice letter drafting
- Confident liaising with clients, HMRC and professional advisers
- CTA qualified would be advantageous
- ATT, ACA or ACCA qualified candidates with relevant corporate tax experience will also be considered
- Experience across wider tax areas such as international tax, VAT, SDLT, CGT or IHT would be beneficial
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple advisory projects
- Commercial, proactive and client-focused approach
